OOTD - Trip to Meadowhall...

Last week I braved Meadowhall to pick up a few last minute bits and pieces for my trip to New York (including an eye wateringly expensive spare camera battery...Ouch!)

This is what I wore...
Boyfriend Coat: New Look
Breton Top: Fred Perry
Skinny Jeans: Topshop
Pumps: Converse
I love this top so much I've got it in another colour. I bought it from the Fred's Threads website which is always good for slightly discounted Fred Perry end of season goodies.

I have managed to snaffle some reduced bits from Ark and M and M Direct in the past but they don't seem to stock ladies FP stuff now but it's worth keeping your eyes peeled.
I got sidetracked and ended up trying on dresses in the Ted Baker shop. I fell in love with this dress but unfortunately my bank balance didn't feel the same way about it so I had to leave it on the hanger.

I'm hoping I might be able to pick up a dress in the sale for my brothers wedding next year, maybe not in black though!

Do you have any go to websites for discounted clothing?

Lush Sheffield Bloggers Event 28th June 2013

Back in June I was invited along to a bloggers event at Lush in Sheffield.

I met up with the lovely Hannah of The Hanmade Tales for a quick drink and a catch up before hand...
We were shown how some of the products are made which was very interesting.
Some of the bloggers finding out more about LUSH and receiving treatment...
I adore this LUSH product called FUN - it really is fun to play with. I've now tried some at home and it can get a little bit messy (I'd advise storing it in a soap dish or something similar) bit it smells heavenly.

I'd definitely pick some up as a present for my friends kids.
I love the packaging for the gifts in the shop!
How cute are these? I bought some of the bunny wraps a couple of Easters ago as I thought that they were such a sweet idea.
The displays looks perfect!
We were given a very generous goodie bag packed with things to try out. I was excited to test some products that I hadn't used before.
These smell absolutely delicious! They make such a lovely gift.I like how you can swish them in your bath and reuse them rather than using the product all in one go,
The gift that keeps on giving... The gift tag contains seeds - what a brilliant idea!
As I mentioned, this smells HEAVENLY. I loved how the scent lingered in my room. Yum.
This is the first LUSH make up item that I own and I'm seriously impressed with it.

The colour is gorgeous. You can use it as a multi-purpose product but I love using it with a fine eyeliner brush along my lids. It is long lasting (even on oily skin like mine) and a little goes a long way. I can see this lasting forever!

What is your favourite LUSH product?

OOTD - To Kill a King Gig at the Leadmill

A couple of weeks ago I went along to the Leadmill in Sheffield to go and see To Kill a King.
I'd seen them once before at Deer Shed Festival in the Summer and wasn't overly bothered but this time round I thought they were absolutely fantastic. I think the intimacy of the small room at the Leadmill helped and I really enjoyed the gig. The band also seemed to be enjoying themselves too which I think makes a difference.

If you haven't heard anything by them I would recommend checking them out!

This is what I wore to the gig...
Leather Biker Jacket: All Saints. This is my pride and joy. I love it so much I want to lick it.
Lace Top: H&M
Cropped Skinny Jeans: Topshop
Red Creepers: Miss Selfridge
Duffle Bag: Topshop
I had drunk 2 pints by this stage hence the derpy face...
Shoe love.
Selfie fail...

Have you got any gigs coming up or new bands you'd recommend?

Zaggora Hotpants

I started running at the beginning of the year and as I mentioned in a previous post I took part in the 2013 Great North Run and have registered for the 2014 Berlin Marathon.

I started running as a means of getting a bit fitter and now I am hooked.

Before I started going running I'd put on nearly 3 stone due to illness. I wasn't "big" by any stretch of the imagination but it was noticeable to me as I have a quite naturally petite frame. The majority of my clothes were no longer fitting me. I didn't enjoy going clothes shopping like I once had.
I hadn't started running to lose weight but it did have that effect and over a few months I had gone back to my previous size. I found that I was more toned than before and felt a lot fitter. The photos above show the difference!

I've had a bit of a break from running since the Great North Run as I got a viral infection straight after but I am determined to get back out now that I'm signed up for a marathon!

I was recently sent a pair of Zaggora Hotpants to review.

I'm not looking to lose any more weight but I am hoping that the Hotpants will assist in toning.

My first impression of the Hotpants is that they feel very supportive. They remind me of wearing a wetsuit albeit a much thinner version!

They are designed to harness your bodies natural body heat (and therefore help increase your core temperature and energy expenditure) so they feel like they will be ideal for wearing on outside runs in the colder weather.

I will keep you posted on how I get on with them!

Have you tried Zaggora Hotpants? What did you think?

Do you have any tips for keeping motivated for outside runs during the winter?

Meal at Silversmiths Restaurant, Sheffield

A few weeks ago I went out for a meal with some friends at Silversmiths Restaurant in Sheffield.

My friend Cindy had come up from London for the weekend as it was her Pud Inn event (which I'll be writing about very soon!) bringing Oliver along for the ride (and pudding of course!)
Keri and I arrived a bit early so got ourselves plotted up at the bar for some drinks.

I went for a cider which was very nice but I kind of regretted not choosing a cocktail as I'd had one on a previous visit and it was gorgeous!
Myself, Oliver & Keri. Cindy is taking the photo...
I haven't included any photos of my meal as I guess that I was slightly underwhelmed by my main. I went for a pasta based vegetarian dish.

I don't like to be negative about things but I think partially I was a bit disappointed because I went for something a bit... Boring? And partially because everyone elses mains looked INCREDIBLE.

I'm a pretty fussy eater and don't eat a lot of meat (if any at all) so I've only got myself to blame really for not being that adventurous BUT the garlic bread that came with my main was pretty damn special. I could have sat and eaten a plate of that if I'd been allowed!

I have eaten in Silversmiths before and chose a vegetarian crumble before which was absolutely delicious.
That all said, I had forgotten about the slight disappointment once our dessert came out.

We were treated to a platter so we could sample a taster of all of the puddings on offer, including a deconstructed trifle, Yorkshire lemon posset, poached pear and double chocolate brownie with salted caramel...

OH MY GOD. We were absolutely spoilt. If I could go back and just have dessert again I would in a shot.

 Hats off to the kitchen!
The platter featured some home made sour strawberry fizzy laces which were out of this world. That's coming from a Haribo Tangfastics addict. Don't worry. I'm getting help for it...

I do like it in Silversmith's and would definitely return. The staff are friendly and Justin (Silversmith's owner and manager) is absolutely lovely.

I might be a little braver next time and go for something different, like a fish dish.

Cindy, Keri and Oliver all blog (and tweet!) too. You should definitely take a peek...

Do you have a sweet tooth like me and always leave room for pudding or do you prefer to order a starter (or both!)?

OOTD - Urban Outfitters Dress

A few weeks ago I went out for dinner with some friends in Sheffield.

This is what I wore...
Dress: Urban Outfitters
Creepers: Agyness Deyn for Dr Martens
I love the style of the dress! My Mum bought it for me when we were up in Newcastle for the Great North Run weekend. She's very good at spotting clothes that she thinks will suit me that I wouldn't have necessarily considered otherwise!
I "did" my hair up in a big bun for the night and really liked how it went. I'm trying to learn how to master different styles now I have longer hair (and after having had cropped/short hair for most of my life!)

Any tips would be welcomed!

New York - HELP!

Two weeks today I will be on my way to New York on holiday.

I have never been to America before. I was meant to go on an A Level Geography field trip to New York back in 2001. The day I went to hand in my deposit was sadly 11th September.

As you can guess, unfortunately the trip never went ahead but I have always had in my mind that one day I would like to visit New York.
A few months ago I was chatting to my friend, Jenna. The photo above is of the pair of us when we were at college(!)

Jenna now lives out in the Cayman Islands and we were discussing me potentially coming to visit her out there as it has been a few years since we last saw each other.

The conversation then came to the idea that we could meet in New York as a "half way" point...
I went ahead and booked flights and we are staying in an apartment in the Williamsburg/Brooklyn are via airbnb (which looks AWESOME)...

We'll be there over Thanksgiving (I have just seen that Fall Out Boy are going to be playing... SQUEALS!) and for Black Friday so I know there is going to be lots of things going on while we're there but I was hoping that I might be able to get some tips from people who have been before.

I'm always interested in hearing about places that we might not have thought of, bars, cafes, galleries, shops... You name it!

I'm also keen to hear any tips too or places to avoid!
We've also got tickets to see Glassjaw while we're there. I am super excited. I've seen Head Automatica a couple of times but never had the chance to catch GJ. I CAN'T WAIT!

Have you been to New York before? What are your recommendations?

I would appreciate any hints & tips or any blog post links would be spot on! Ta

OOTD - Lazy Day...

Just a very quick OOTD post.

I wore this a few weeks ago when I was popping into town...
T-shirt: Illustrated People via Ebay
Skinny Cropped Jeans: Topshop
Pumps: Vans
I thought I would include this too...

My Mum bought me this t-shirt a week or so ago and it got me panicking slightly as how quickly Xmas is coming around!

Have you started any Xmas shopping yet?

Hello Netflix! Goodbye Social Life!

My laptop is on its last legs. It’s served me pretty well. It got me through my masters degree at uni. It's survived several years of abuse. To be honest nowadays I rarely use it apart from sticking my photos onto the ever strained hard drive.
If I'm sat at home on an evening I'm usually in bed checking whatsapp/Facebook/twitter/Instagram/emails on my phone constantly rather than getting my laptop out.
As a result of this constant usage, the battery life of phone is leaving a lot to be desired!
I'd thought about getting a tablet to use in the evening instead of hammering my phone. I decided to go for a HP Slate 7 from Argos.
I've always gone for HP laptops & printers so it was a brand that I trust.
The setup of the tablet was super quick and easy. I'm talking less than 5 minutes quick.
The amount of gadgets I have had in recent years that require you to have a PhD in 'setting up said new gadget" is unreal...
The first thing I want to say is LOOK HOW BEAUTIFUL AND RED IT IS!
I subscribed to and downloaded the Netflix app. Goodbye social life. Hello Breaking Bad/hibernation!
I now have a massive list of films, documentaries and series I’d like to watch in the coming months...
I'm visiting New York at the end of November and although I am planning on being busy I would like the option of keeping in touch with my Mum and friends as I will be travelling on my own.
The Skype app is perfect for keeping in touch with friends & family on the go.
My only gripe is that there currently isn’t a Blogger or Instagram app compatible with the device but they are viewable on the browser. I’m sure this is something that may be developed in future.
As you can see, the tablet takes up minimal room and it weighs very little so is perfect for popping in my handbag and will be ideal for my hand luggage as it's not cumbersome at all.

I would have no hesitation in popping it in my handbag on the go, whereas with my laptop I was always a little apprehensive of lugging it anywhere outside.
I go away quite a lot, either visiting my boyfriend or popping down to London to visit friends or go to gigs. This will be a welcome addition to my bag, especially on the dreaded 4 hour long megabus journeys! (Thank god for free wifi on most of the buses!)

Which are your favourite apps to use?
