Great North Run September 2013

I mentioned in some previous posts that I had started running earlier this year and had planned on entering a half marathon.

Well. I did.

Two weekends ago I traveled up to Newcastle to take part in the Great North Run.
Mum & I traveled up on the Friday night and stayed in a room via airbnb which was in a perfect location and pretty cheap too.

We had a wander around Newcastle and went to the pasta party that's held the day before the run.

The run itself was brilliant.

There was such a lovely atmosphere on the day.

People line the streets to cheer you along, kids hold their hands out for high fives and people hand out sweeties and ice lollies to keep you going.

The last mile is along South Shields and when I was on the last stretch, the Red Arrows were doing a display. It was just breathtaking (and took my mind off the last mile!)

I was smiling the whole way round

Believe it or not, this photo was taken about 5 minutes after I finished!

I ran on behalf of the Anthony Nolan Trust. (If you would like to sponsor me you can do here)!

Running on behalf of a charity was great as it motivated me to keep up with my training as well as raising money for a great cause. They also have a tent in the charity village which I went to after I'd finished. I was lucky enough to get a massage after the race which was an absolute godsend. My legs were very sore!
My goal was to finish the run so I was over the moon with my finishing time!

I'm planning on entering another race in the near future and will definitely enter the ballot for the Great North Run next year as I enjoyed it so much.

If you are looking to do a half marathon, I would recommend the Great North Run. It was brilliantly organised and the atmosphere is incredible.

Dinner in Bloo 88 & Pudding in the Wick at Both Ends...

A little bit late posting this, but a couple of months ago I went out for dinner in Sheffield with my friend Keri - this is what we ate... and drank...!
We met in The Rutland for a quick drink before we had dinner... I had a ladylike pint of Highwire.
We went to Bloo 88 on West Street for food. It was happy hour so we had some very nice cocktails (fruity, rummy and sweet - yum!)

Their pizzas were 241 and are AWESOME. We used to go here for pizza when I was at uni before it changed to Bloo 88 and it was a favourite place to visit.

I chose the Mediterranean (goats cheese, cherry tomatoes, spinach, roasted garlic mushrooms, tomato sauce and mozarella) and I loved it.

I usually end up being a pain when I have veggie pizzas as I hate olives & onions so want to swap things but this has everything on it that I like... Yay!
We went to the Wick at Both Ends for another drink - I had a 'This Is a Smile' cocktail which is my absolute favourite... Gin & lychee juice FTW!
We also shared a chocolate fondant pudding... It was really rich but so good!

Where is your favourite place to eat/drink in Sheffield if you've visited?
